Botanical watercolour painting workshop at the spectacular Trebah Garden near Falmouth, Cornwall 16 – 18 May 2018

Now living in this glorious corner of Cornwall near the Helford River, I have some of the most inspiring places to paint plants and flowers right on my doorstep. Although spoilt for choice, one location - the spectacular coastal sub-tropical Trebah Garden at Mawnan Smith near Falmouth - stood out as the perfect setting for my botanical watercolour painting workshops.

Not only is the lush 26-acre ravine garden leading down to Trebah’s private beach on the Helford River full of beautiful and exotic species from around the world, the original Georgian mansion and garden room at its head make the ideal painting studio. In addition, the recently-built indoor/outdoor restaurant and cafe at Trebah provide fresh, nutritious, sustainable, inclusive and ethically-sourced snacks, sandwiches, salads, hot dishes (including vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free), daily specials and desserts. Trebah Garden is also completely suitable for those with disabilities.

I am therefore running two non-residential workshops at Trebah this year from Sunday13 to Tuesday 15 May and Wednesday 16 to Friday18 May, each limited as usual to six painters only. The first workshop is now fully booked, I’m afraid, but I still have some places available on the second workshop from Wednesday 16 to Friday 18 May. The three full days of personal painting tuition and guidance will offer a personalised one-to-one learning experience. I work with each individual in turn, giving advice and practical demonstration on whatever aspect is needed ‒ choice of subject and materials, observation, good composition, botanical accuracy, lifelike drawing, achieving three-dimensionality, confidence in using colour, improving layering techniques, and more.

The Falmouth and Helford River area boasts a wealth of varied accommodation opportunities, from four-star waterside hotels, to friendly guest houses, bed and breakfast, inns with rooms and self-catering cottages and apartments, ideal if you wish to extend your stay for a longer holiday. These can be found at http://www.visitcornwall.co.uk and several other Cornwall accommodation websites, but I will provide a specific list for those wishing to book a workshop.
